TRAPPED IN THE ICE: MAJOR SHACKLETON EXHIBITION TOURS SPAIN DURING 2007-8, VISITING BARCELONA THIS AUTUMN
Sr. Eugenio Civera from Barcelona has sent news that the acclaimed Travelling Exhibition 'Atrapados en el hielo - 'Trapped in the ice: Shackleton's legendary Antarctic Expedition' - is currently visiting several major centres in Spain.
This important Exhibition, supported by the Fundació Caixa Barcelona (Barcelona Banking Foundation), runs through 2007 and 2008 until 2009, and is backed up by a 240 page-long book by Caroline Alexander, translated as Atrapados en el hielo and published by Editorial Planeta, SA Barcelona.
The widely acclaimed touring display originated in the showing of the award-winning Endurance film by George Butler and the Shackleton exhibition mounted in 1999 at the Museum of Natural History, New York, which toured to major centres in the United States, and for which Caroline Alexander wrote her best-selling book Endurance.

The Exhibition has so far visited Palma, in Majorca and now goes to Valladolid, north of Madrid, where it runs at the Museo de la Ciencia (tel. +34 (0)983 144 300) from June and through July until 19 August (entrance free/entrada gratuita, closed on Mondays/cerrado Lunes). After that it will visit Seville, running from 13 September to 28 October. The display is specially designed so as to be highly flexible and appropriate for showing in a wide variety of different spaces.
From 13 November 2007 to 24 February 2008 the Shackleton Exhibition will be displayed in Barcelona, at the premier Naval Museum of Spain and Catalonia, the Museu Marítim (Museo Maritimo), located in the picturesque Port Vel (or old Port), Avenida de les Drassanes s/n 08001, Barcelona (Tel. +34 90) 933 429 920). It then moves on to Zaragosa (Saragossa, March to May 2008) and thence to Alicante, in Southern Spain (late May and all June of 2008) and will continue to be seen in Spain until 2009.
