THE JAMES CAIRD SOCIETY 'FORUM' TAKES OFF

ASK OR ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT SHACKLETON, POST YOUR MESSAGE OR HAVE YOUR SAY ONLINE

Go straight to the James Caird Society FORUM

The James Caird Society has now launched its new online Shackleton FORUM, which offers members and non-members alike the chance to post messages, ask or reply to questions, offer information, add useful comments and suggestions or to have your say.
(Many visitors may prefer simply to read and enjoy what others have written).

Join in and have your say on momentous events! Ernest Shackleton, soon to be knighted, is greeted at Charing Cross with his wife Emily upon his return to London in early summer 1909
The public 'Forum' format has worked very well (see, for instance, the Hon. Treasurer's website, www.hmsneptune.com). Anyone can add a new message, include a relevant photo, or post a comment, question or reply, on the JCS Forum, where it can be read and responded to by other Shackleton enthusiasts. To get there, click on one of the photos or on the blue link below. (There is also a link at the top of this page, and at the head of other pages).

VISIT THE FORUM, to read new messages or to ADD YOUR OWN MESSAGE

The James Caird Society Forum has attracted a number of lively and interesting messages and enquiries since it first went public. The Forum is designed to bring together anyone with an interest in or enthusiasm for Sir Ernest Shackleton; and to provide a route by which those with a Shackleton connection (for instance, descendants or relations of members of his expeditions) might be communicated with by those with an interest in, or new information about, their famous relations. Anything Shackleton-related or Antarctic Exploration-related has a place on the Forum!

Sir Ernest Shackleton with his younger son Eddie (born 15 July 1911), later Lord Shackleton of Burley and a close and sympathetic ally of the Falkland Islands 80 years on: Lord Shackleton, Life ÍPresident of the James Caird Society, pays respects to the remarkabler boat which saved his father's life. His daughter Alexandra succeeded him as the Society's President upon his death in 1994
The JCS Forum is moderated, which means that when you post a message, there will be a short editorial delay before it can be read by other visitors.

We hope you will enjoy the Forum and find it entertaining: topics raised already include Shackleton at school, Harry 'Chips' McNeish and his cat Mrs. Chippy, 'Bosun' John Vincent, the latest James Caird Society Journal, fatalities in the Ross Sea Party, the scouts aboard the 'Quest', Mrs. Henrietta Shackleton (the explorer's mother), Lady Emily Shackleton (his wife), the Hon. Alexandra Shackleton (Sir Ernest's granddaughter and President of the James Caird Society), the bestselling author and Shackleton specialist Caroline Alexander, plus several items about Antarctic and other landmarks with a Shackleton connection, such as Mount Shackleton and the Shackleton Range, close to the Weddell Sea.
