SHACKLETON'S DOGS COMMEMORATED ON STAMPS
Shackleton's Endurance expedition was recently commemorated by a handsome four-stamp first-day cover of Antarctic Stamps.
The four stamps were issued by the Crown Agents Stamp Bureau for use in British Antarctic Territories.
The theme is 'Shackleton's dogs', and they pay a tribute to the men's faithful friends who sadly perished on the expedition. Tom Crean is depicted with the four puppies (named Roger, Nell, Toby and Nelson), and the largest dog, Samson, is also among those featured, together with Shakespeare and Sorley.
