Classic Antarctica Advanced options Crossing the Antarctic Circle During 2002 Quark Expeditions' journey entitled The Great Explorers: Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott, aboard the Finnish-built icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov, ran from 19 January to 12 February 2002. Travelling from Lyttleton, at the south end of New Zealand, to Hobart in Tasmania via McMurdo Sound, it visited parts of Antarctica bordering the Ross Sea familiar from the stories of Scott and Shackleton, also taking in Campbell Island and Macquarie Island en route.
Further expeditions were mounted in 2003 and 2004's expeditions included The Weddell Sea Adventure and, during November-December 2004, Solar Eclipse: The Far Side of Antarctica with Crozet and Kerguelen Islands. Others included Wonders of the Ross Sea - Mount Erebus, Ross Ice Shelf & McMurdo Sound;; The Great Explorers - Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott; and Explorers Cruise 3: In the Wake of Shackleton
During January 2005 a Quark expedition also visited Russia's Far East and Wrangel Island.
